House Call with Dr. Honles: Spring flu season Reply

The milder winter seems to have shifted its peak and we may be seeing a higher number cases of the flu later in the season than usual. In the past week, we have cared for more patients confirmed to have the flu.

We expect them all to recover, however the number of missed days from work or school and the potential exposure to other vulnerable individuals remains a concern.  If you believe that you have developed the illness, please remain at home and practice “social distancing” to avoid exposing others needlessly. For anyone who was undecided earlier in the season about getting a flu shot, or perhaps wasn’t able to get one, we encourage you to stop by and get this protective treatment. WellSpring Family Medicine still has flu vaccine.

What are the symptoms of the flu?

Flu symptoms may include:

  • A 100oF or higher fever or feeling feverish (not everyone with the flu has a fever)
  • A cough and/or sore throat
  • A runny or stuffy nose
  • Headaches and/or body aches
  • Chills
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea (most common in children)

Flu can occur year round, but it tends to cluster in the winter months, typically November to March.  For more information about the flu online, visit:

If you would like to get the flu shot, come by our office, located at Our offices are located at 800 West Hwy 290, Building A, Suite 100 in Dripping Springs. No appointment is necessary and since this is a preventative service, we expect your health plan to pay 100% on the claim.

However, if your health care plan does not cover the flu shot, we believe that this is an important tool to help our bodies mount a quicker immune response so you will not owe anything if your health plan does not cover this expense.

We want you to be healthy.  We want to be your partner in achieving the best health possible.  We look forward to seeing you.
