Driftwood Cemetery comes to life with Voices from the Past Reply

Members of the area Toastmasters, Civil War re-enactors, and high school thespians will help bring to life the voices and faces of Texas revolutionaries, Civil War soldiers, and early settlers buried at the historic Driftwood Cemetery, during the Heritage Circle’s presentation of Voices from the Past on Sunday, October 21, from 3:00 – 5:00 pm.

The costumed actors will dramatize the lives of former area residents buried at Driftwood Cemetery next to Driftwood United Methodist Church, which is referenced in the area’s historical record as far back as 1879. The church building has been in continuous use since it was built in 1884, and is a registered Texas historic site. 

Janie Botkin is president of the Heritage Circle, an auxiliary organization of the Dr. Pound Historical Farmstead & Museum that puts on the annual cemetery tours program.

“We chose Driftwood this year because Driftwood and Dripping Springs are sister communities,” Botkin said. “Their descendants are still very much present throughout the area.”
