Crime rates drop across Hays County Reply

Sheriff Gary Cutler announced the 2011 crime statistics for Hays County this week. Sheriff Cutler reported a decrease in total reportable crimes from 1,773 in 2010, to 1,351 in 2011.

The statistics are prepared yearly and reported to the Texas Department of Public Safety for the Uniformed Crime Report (UCR), prepared and published by the Federal Bureau of Investigations.   

The overall decrease reflects a 23% drop from 2010 to 2011, in the following areas: 

 Burglaries: 14% decrease from 335 in 2010 to 290 in 2011 

 Theft: down 38% from 761 in 2010 to 478 in 2011

 Assault: 11% drop from 611 in 2010 to 549 in 2012 

Sheriff Gary Cutler said these statistics are a direct reflection of the proactive and preventive approach to law enforcement and public safety by the Hays County Sheriff’s Office.
