Britt Peterson graduated from Dripping Springs High School in 1999. Five years later, he started Longhorn Health Solutions with $1,000.
This month, Peterson gave a generous $5,000 donation to the Dripping Springs Education Foundation, and pledged multi-year support to the non-profit organization for the future. Longhorn Health Solutions provides medical equipment and supplies directly to thousands of people across Texas. Peterson says the company’s mission is to “treat people with class and respect.”
Meet Britt Peterson, who explains in his own words, the impact that the Dripping Springs Independent School District (DSISD) had on him while growing up here, and the reason he is committed to giving back to his community.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN DRIPPING SPRINGS?
I lived in Dripping Spings from K-12. My parents still live in the same house across from Nutty Brown Café in the Oak Run West subdivision.
TELL US ABOUT LONGHORN HEALTH SOLUTIONS AND HOW IT GOT STARTED. ALSO, ANY OTHER BUSINESS INVOLVEMENTS?
I started Longhorn Health Solutions on 12/17/04 with a credit card with a $1000 limit. I felt there was a very strong need for a medical equipment and supply company that provided exceptional service and quality. We don’t think Medicaid recipients should have to have poor service and inferior products simply because they are on Medicaid.
I am also involved in Dulce Vida Organic Tequila business as the second largest investor behind Red McCombs. www.dulcevidatequila.com
HOW DID YOUR EDUCATION IN DSISD HELP PREPARE YOU FOR YOUR SUCCESS?
DSISD provided all the tools and skills I needed to seamlessly enter the University of Texas and succeed there.
WHAT WERE YOUR EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS AT DRIPPING SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL?
I was the Quarterback of the DSHS football team during my junior and senior years, the Point Guard on the basketball team, and I ran track. I was also a member of multiple clubs and groups, like the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).
WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO GIVE SUCH A GENEROUS DONATION TO THE DRIPPING SPRINGS EDUCATION FOUNDATION AND TO PLEDGE CONTINUED ANNUAL SUPPORT?
My friend, Patrick Rose, informed me that Dripping Springs raises far less money for our (local) Education Foundation compared to other area schools, and I was moved to change that. I loved everything about growing up as a Tiger, and I hope other kids are able to have the same type of experiences I did.
Giving Back to Our Communities and the Environment
Our company feels a great responsibility as Americans and Texans to support our local communities and to responsibly reduce our impact on the environment. Three of our locations are powered by 100% Texas Wind Energy from TXU and all of our locations recycle and reuse the shipping pallets we use in daily operations.
In 2011, we gave over $200,000 to worthy individuals and organizations and are on pace to increase that for 2012. If you represent an organization that would like to be considered for support, please email us, firstname.lastname@example.org
